FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Stroller Warriors Strive to Attain Running Goals in Local Race
Jacksonville, North Carolina
May 15, 2017
Members of Stroller Warriors® Camp Lejeune will celebrate their graduation from the Couch to 5K running program during the Hope for the Warriors race series on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Jacksonville High School.
Couch to 5K (C25K) is a walking and jogging program which aims to transform you from a couch potato to a runner in two months.
“Many beginner runners end up getting hurt or giving up because they have jumped into things too fast. This program eases you into running, giving your body a chance to build endurance,” said Shannon Foote, chapter coordinator of Stroller Warriors Camp Lejeune.
Stroller Warriors Running Club is a free global running club for military spouses and their families. The Camp Lejeune chapter is one of 47 chapters worldwide and boasts more than 2,000 local members. The group offers the C25K training program twice a year to accommodate beginner runners or those who are just getting back into running following a pregnancy, injury, or extended break. Seventeen members of the Camp Lejeune chapter will graduate the program during Saturday’s race.
The Stroller Warriors mission is to help military families around the world live happier, healthier lives through fitness, friendship, leadership, goal-setting, networking, fundraising, and community service. The club was first established at Camp Lejeune, NC in 2010 by Stephanie Geraghty, Military Spouse Magazine and AFI’s 2012 Marine Corps Spouse of the Year.
Stroller Warriors does not demand specific running paces or standards. Members must have goals of running, but all ability levels are invited to join. Children are not required and many members attend workouts without a stroller.
“We promote a positive, comfortable environment for men or women of all ability levels to run together, beginners to marathoners. Our membership have provided countless testimonials that this club is one of the most positive organizations they have ever been a part of. We are all equally valued as a part of this incredible team,” Geraghty said.
The Hope for the Warriors will begin at 8am, May 20, 2017 at Jacksonville High School.
